I work at the Centre for English Language Studies in Education (www.man.ac.uk/CELSE/) at Manchester University where I am a teacher trainer.

My main interests are in how technology can be most usefully exploited in language learning and in language teacher education.  I have been doing this for about twelve years now and am continually excited by the way that things have developed in the last few years with the rapid growth of the internet and particularly the World Wide Web.  I run an MEd in Educational Technology and ELT which operates fully distance and this MEd makes an increasing use of technology in its delivery.

I have also been involved in IATEFL for quite some time.  I am currently the Special Interest Group Representative (but not for much longer), am a member of the computer SIG and edit the newsletter, and I also edit the core pages of the IATEFL Web site.  I have been involved in setting
up and running a number of events for the Computer SIG and we ran the last PCE physically at Manchester.  This is the SIGs first venture into virtual courses.

A couple of Web sites where there are short articles I have written about things to do with technology and language learning:

This is an overview talk about CALL that I gave in China: http://www.scut.edu.cn/cwis/scut/setup/foreign/gary.htm

and here are some views about the Web and language learning: http://www.insa-lyon.fr/Departements/CDRL/learner.html
