I work at the Centre for English Language Studies in Education at the University of Manchester (http://www.man.ac.uk/CELSE) where I am a teacher trainer mainly on our Masters courses in Educational Technology and ELT. Our courses run on-site and fully distance and it is the latter mode that has presented us with the most challenges over the past few years.
Besides being interested in the way that technology can facilitate distance learning, I am also working with local teachers in primary and secondary schools, looking at the impact that technology is having on their classrooms. There's a lot of pressure for teachers in the UK to 'implement ICT solutions' in their curriculum but we are still finding out how ICT impacts on different learners in different learning contexts, and there is particular interest in the relationship between literacy and the WWW.
